    Need some job advice.

Actually, that's not the worst. Here, dispatch is the highest paid non-management position. Even significantly more than Paramedics. Apparently dispatch has more responsibilities and requires more work.

9 patients, 2700 er visits in 6 years

Because that's worked so well so far. How can someone witnessing the country falling apart still suggest that? It blows me mind. Consider what would have happened had Bush succeeded in privatizing social security when he wanted to. This economic crash we experienced would have taken...

9 patients, 2700 er visits in 6 years

I'm glad you had success. Although telling them you're having trouble with your blood pressure is more likely to get you in quickly than a cold or a checkup. Afterall, they can give drugs for that. And drugs mean money. Sadly though, here, all the family physicians are leaving. Doing other...

9 patients, 2700 er visits in 6 years

Why does our hypothetical patient with the cold (the one abusing the system) need an MRI?

9 patients, 2700 er visits in 6 years

Yes, with the current system we have now. I had more trouble getting into a doctor in America than I did in Australia. Wait in America for a non-emergency appointment: 4 months. Wait in Australia for a non-emergency appointment: The same day I called.

9 patients, 2700 er visits in 6 years

Actually, it's a problem that is provoked by a non-socialized system. If we had a system where people could get the medical assistance and social programs that they need, then these people wouldn't in theory be so badly off that they need to seek shelter in an emergency room. Socialized...

Anyone REALLY familiar with Road Safety? Job gone over lies...

Wow, Paramedics in Michigan have a Union? How did I get left out?

Never ever heard of a BLS ambulance around here. I think everyone knows better.

Falsely advertising being a paramedic ?

Not really a big deal here. Most Basics use the term medic when describing their job simply because no one knows what an EMT is. Not a huge deal.

    Code 3 response to hospital

One of the issues our service is currently dealing with is abuse of this. The hospital is making every transfer stat just to get us there faster. We tried sitting outside with the siren going for awhile to deter them, but it didn't. We can't go faster than 72 mph in the vehicle anyway, so we...

To clear or not to clear

That is absolute indication for full C-Spine immobilization. If you release it now, you're a fool. Could be whiplash. Could be something much more. Gamble?

    Filtered needle anyone ???

Several filtered needles carried at all times here, and used when appropriate. Most often for the administration of Epi.

Someting this new Medic never heard of

No. You do not shock PEA under any circumstances. Sounds like a desperate, panic/ignorant move.

    Well, here's to the first day;

No, usually no testing. Usually watching films and reading/filling out paperwork. A no stress work day.

    O2 carrying requirements

Unauthorized possession and use of oxygen while off-duty is, at best, a horrible idea. And I too live in a very rural setting. Don't do it.

Attention General Public, May I Have Your Attention Please...

Some members here are just so... Frustratingly, absurdly grumpy. I hope EMS doesn't turn me old and humorless too. Anyway, funny picture. True too.

You don't want this guy as your partner!

I thought it was awesome to see a commercial featuring paramedics. It's funny, too.
