    Menstrual blood loss

Don't see how it is much different than using a diaphragm or inserting a tampon, but everyone has their favorite methods.

    Response Times!!!

We have 2 minutes from when we are toned out to calling in route. During the day most crews are a lot quicker than that, at night it probably averages 2 minutes. Looking at our times there can be up to a 2 minute delay from when the 911 call was placed with dispatch and when we were assigned...

Here's a situation for you to ponder.

We had this happen to us a while back. We were doing a nursing home take-back I was in the back (BLS) with the lady. We got slammed with calls and so both of our other trucks were on calls, we were getting mutual aid from 2 neighboring towns/counties already and then there was an accident on the...

    Do you get breaks?

We do 24 hr shifts, with 3 crews (hopefully) on to cover the county. We run out of a base so when we are not out on call we are either at the base, hospital, or we can go through a drive through, pretty much what we want to do (once the chores at the base are finished). We don't get official...

How much clinical time did you have in your Basic class?

My EMT-B required 40 ambulance and 16 ER hours. We also had to get certain skills checked off so those were the minimum hours needed. I actually did almost 40 ER and over 100 ambulance hours.

The whole acting off duty topic.

On duty we are required to have on our person one of those face shields in the foil package. That is a reg from the hospital - all hospital personnel are required. It hangs behind my ID tag, so it is sitting in my purse when I'm off duty. That doesn't mean, however, that I would pull it out to...

School bus crash in MO. Wow.

The kids were from the neighboring town - about 5 miles from here. This will be felt in our community for a long time.

    Forest Service

As I presently work for the USFS.....I totally agree....and one of the first smiles I've had a work today! Thank you! To the question, unless you want the training for you, I wouldn't pay the money. If you get hired, and if they want you to work in fire or ems, they will pay for your...

    24 hour shifts

We work 24s. The first 8 is straight pay, the second 8 is pay plus 10%, the third 8 is plus 25%. When I started, if you got a consecutive 4 hrs of sleep in the middle of the night you were paid for only 20 hours. Our Director went to the board (we are attached to the County Hospital) for a full...

I've been a wildland firefighter for over 10 yrs now...started with Park Service and am now with Forest Service. It is not my main job but collateral duties. I have never been dispatched as an EMT on a large fire (prefer to go out as Helitack or Archaeologist) but have been first responder...

    Wildland Fire EMS

You might also try the PA Dept of Conservation for information. It sounds like they are the ones who might be in charge of dispatching for wildfires in your area. There is also this page: http://www.nwcg.gov/teams/shwt/iemtg/index.html That may have some useful information for you...

How would you feel about this?

My Instructor never posted anyone's grades. When she handed out the printouts with our grades on them they were folded. At the end of the course she had them in envelopes with our certificates - everyone got an envelope whether they passed or not. She did acknowledge the top 3 people in class -...

Your experience being a PATIENT of EMS

    Where were you?

I was at work, a co-worker was bringing the car around so we could load our climbing gear. He came into the building and said there was something on the radio about an airplane hitting one of the twin towers. We finally got a news page to load on the computer and found out what happened.

I didn't know uniforms were so expensive!

I have nomex, but it is only for when working on wildfires. Interesting that someone would need it for EMS.
