    Wish Me Luck

stay calm, read the whole question, and read the answers all the way through. If you are not sure on a question break it down and rationalize out the answer. It was not that hard at all. I honestly felt more stress and felt I did worse on my basic exam!

Obesity Winning Out Against Firefighters, Paramedics

Another thing to look at is how they measure obesity. It is usually the BMI and man that is retarded, A guy I work with is 6' and is around 245lbs and obese by BMI standards, but has a body fat % of less than 5. I am 5'11 and 230lbs and cosidered obese as well, but I do not look 240, I run...

    C-Spine after a fight

It all depends on the patients presentation. If they are alteredyes or have neck pain then yes, but if its a fat lip, ect then no. Unfortunately in most cases we have to c-spine them even if they do not need it based solely on protocol.

Okay, I already Know The Answer...but

Some departments operate transport units staffed with fire fighters, and some have ems divisions that are just emt or medic. My district is staffed with ff's on ambo's. Some districts have seperate fire and ems divisions. So the answer is yes and no depending on where you are.

    Arizona EMT cert?

I did my EMT through wizard education. I did my medic through DC Med Prep, which also has EMT basic courses but its more expensive than comm colleges. I would say if I had to do it i would choose. Phoenix college, Paradise Valley CC or Glendale CC, but sometimes getting into them is harder so...

IS it True About Private Companies?

In the metro phoenix area it varies. Some departments have Rescues and others use either Southwest ambo or PMT ambo. In cities like glendale, FF/PM's ride in on every ALS call even though the ambo is ALS. Some cities like Sun city and peoria the SW ambo's are BLS and FF/PM's ride in on every...

    Flail Chest Management

In my experience the only real way to stabilize a flail chest is through PPV with BVM. It's the negative pressure that causes the pain and movement of the flail segment so by using positive pressure you avoid that issue.

    EMS: Fire Truck vs. Ambulance

I work as a FF/PM about 75% of the time on an engine and 25% on a rescue ambulance. Nothing is different in my department besides more patient contact time during transport. We do carry hand tools, airpacks and our turnouts. We are also responsible for bringing a RIC bag to the scene on fires...

    My Ambulance

All new ambo's and fire apparatus will be capped at a certain speed based on wieght. Our new rescues top out at 76 and any new engine ordered will be a max of I believe 68mph. New NFPA standards. Not a bad idea. I work in an urban/ urban/rural interface district and I have responded as far as 60...

Which should EMS be merged with

Well at my department before we put up more engines we used to roll rescue's only on almost every call and have to wait for a volunteer or two to show up. Noq that is fine on the medical calls that are not very complex, but working a code 2 man isn't very productive, extricating a patient from a...

Which should EMS be merged with

I believe the fire based ems system I work in works really well. 6 firefighter/emt/paramedics on every call at a minimum. MVA's get more depending on the severity. In my neck of the woods there is no debate over it. It is what we do and everyone I know loves it. Our engines have 2 basics and 2...

    No EMT jobs in AZ?

I think in the near future the trend will be cities beginning to slowly push out private companies and either put up their own rescues staffed with firefighters or EMS divisions. Most people are not hapopy with the privates around here. Privates are a great place to start and get...

14 Day Boot Camp, ADHD, and A Good Program

I think 4 of the six people at my station have ADD. We walk around and open cabinets and the fridges over and over again if we are not out training or running calls. So I think you will fit in fine. It all seems to go away on calls.

    No EMT jobs in AZ?

I would suggest keep trying with PMT. They like everyone else are having budget problems and when a little company called med care shut down, almost all of the employees got hired by PMT for part time work. Med Care was a private company that contracted to southwest ambo for IFT's. They wore SW...
