    This is an absolute disgrace

lost his nerve? From reading the flurry of excuses in mixed patterns, this may be a case of having lost his nerve. It does happen and from what I've seen over the years, it's generally in a situation where retirement is close or family suddenly becomes more real. The risks of the job becomes...

Would going back to do run sheets after your employment has been terminated create a HIPAA issue? HMMMM...pondering this one.

    I no longer speak EMT

Holy Cow! We get it..you're smarter than the rest of the world and the U.S. must burn because it'll just never measure up! For cryin out loud, stop the pay-attention-to-me diatribes. Making a real contribution does not have to include constant raging frustration. It's so unhealthy. Please...

Rank the EMS systems of the world

I agree. Only those who have recently worked or work currently in a different system have anything to say worth listening to IMHO. I've had a few visitors to my classroom from other places around the globe. They don't seem to convey the same anti-American opinions as some here in our own...

Local ER now has Appointment Times!!! wtf

Step downs have been around for 10-15 years here. A number of our hospitals created them to curb the nonemergant flow into the main ER area.

    Is EMS right for me?

Sure it would! When people do something in their spare time, the gift is really a gift worth having too. In the mean time, while you are busy healing from surgery, hop on over to your nearest community college and take an A&P course so you will be more prepared when Basic class begins.

    Post paramedic school education

How about a more solid background in science, including A/P? You will gain a whole lot more from stacked certs with a good foundation. Add a cert here and there as you go and watch the light go on! I suggest you go that route if you really want to feel like you're learning.

Should EMS have tests for their clinicals?

Do so few come from accredited programs? Expectations for clinical rotations and internship evaluations is quite extensive.

Is there anything they could of done?

Your story sounds like a couple of co-workers and the experience they had some 10-12 years ago. EMS workers are sometimes endangered working in some parts of Detroit, especially after dark. It is rare but, it does occasionally happen. As I recall, the crew was held at gunpoint and prevented from...

    Family history of suicide

The history is not "her" medical history but, as a treating physician, it may be a piece of useful inofrmation when found in a patient chart. Not necessary to put it on your trip sheet.

    Med Majors

Well, if one lives here, we're a research area with 5 (OMC/Oakland/Wayne State/U of M and MSU) medical schools alone, in about a 100 mile radius. There is oportunity for science majors. I'm pretty confident that this is not the only area in the country like ours. An undergrad will get a job if...

    Med Majors

There isn't a thing wrong with wanting to remain in the sciences even if med school is not part of the picture. If science is where you want to be, stick with that. It's an employable field that pays fairly well. Oh, and med schools still consider EMT as a door ajar. There are sooooo many premed...

    Does EMS overtreat?

Well...as member of the uneducated providers club, which is what some people seem to think the U.S. is; perhaps we had better stick to over treating until we be schmarter ;) TGIF...have a good weekend :)

    BLS for Healthcare Providers

AHA advocated the practice both during and after the resQ Trial ended due to funding problems. I worked on phase III of the trail. AHA did not change it back afterwards.
