    Neurogenic pulmonary edema

Is altered consciousness a contraindication for CPAP-use? If yes, why? Taking into account that CPAP is also used to treat sleep apnea in patients who can't manage their airway in their deepest sleep. I considered RSI because of the extreme work of breathing that the patient needed to keep his...

Hi Anthony33. Sorry for the delay. While in Medellin, I walked into a large fire station one day, where I was well received by very motivated firemen, one in particular, who arranged my ride alongs the next weekend. I did two nightshift on a rapid response vehicle. I didn't manage to get onto...

What call do you absolutely hate?

The 7th drunk call of the weekend nightshift, where everyone seems to find the situation so funny that they need to take pictures and record videos for facebook.

    Atrovent for Pediatrics

In the whole of the Netherlands we use albuterol/atrovent for all pedi patients in case of an astma attack. Younger than 4 years: 2,5mg / 0,5mg (standard adult dose) 4 to 18 years: 5mg / 1 mg (which is double the standard dose of an adult patient), this dose may be repeated once should the...

What call do you absolutely hate?

For me it's the 3 A.M. GI-bleed. I just can't take the smell at that time of the night.

Code 3 to assist the PD at an intersection where a guy is directing traffic on the middle of the road and has possibly swallowed 'bad drugs'. He did indeed chew on a few seeds of 'Hawaiian baby woodrose' or LSA and turned psychotic. Enroute to the hospital he warns me for a few purple dots on my...

    EMS in Canada?

Does anyone know where I can find an overview of the skill set of an ACP in Nova Scotia, and a list of drugs that he is allowed to use? Also, are the treatment protocols of the EHS anywhere to be found online?

Any spot for a Dutch paramedic?

Good morning folks, As an ambulance nurse (paramedic) I've been working fulltime for the last eight years for an all-ALS ambulance service in a busy urban environment in the Netherlands. I am trilingual (Spanish, English, Dutch). I would love to continue my career in EMS in the United States...

    Who does what in Canada?

This question to try to understand how the system works in Canada: Here in the Netherlands, we have an RN and an ambulance driver on each ambulance. The system is nurse-based, therefore every nurse has the same skill set and autorization to make decisions and act according to the national...

Do you consider the industrial work dangerous and are you exposed to gases, fumes and other health risks during your work?

    BC Ambulance Service

That's good news. How is the job security in Canada? Do you have a job on a day to day basis, or do you get a year-contract or longer? I've also been looking at the registration process for RN's, but that is much more expensive and compicated. I'll be happy to stay in EMS.

    BC Ambulance Service

that's valuable info :) now as an insider, unable to predict, but knowing your organization...would you say it makes sense for a foreign trained paramedic to go through the whole process and try...or is the chance of eventually getting employed fulltime very low?
