I can't stop the **** magnet-ing! It was fun for a minute, but now I just really want a nice old lady who fell out of bed, or generalized weakness for the last 3 weeks. I'd be fine if I didn't have to see a helicopter for a couple days. Also, any one have suggestions on getting a BP when all 4...

    Stress of being a student

No. If anyone is on scene leave it to them. If PDs on scene, they can do cpr and hold direct pressure. So can EMRs. So can firefighters. So can paramedics. If NO ONE is on scene, and you really want to, go for it. But don't be stupid and don't put yourself in harms way (which is every time you...

Internship has me to the point that I'm about ready to just walk out of the ambulance bay and start a new life as a street corner prostitute. Better pay, better hours, and less stress.

first call of the day is...

First call of the day: cardiac arrest with esophageal varices. Witnessed arrest, asystole throughout and blue from the nipple line up. Fire had dropped a king tube and with every breath they sent a thick mist of blood spraying over their turnouts. Needless to say, that king tubes life was as...

    HALL AMBULANCE

That's fine, even Kern county hospitals forget Ridgecrest is actually in Kern county. But what they said, go work for Hall. There's no nice part of Kern county, but it's all a fun place to work.

NYC Hazmat Awareness & WMD Certs

But where do I get hazmat awareness? And does ICS 999-Introduction to doing-what-the-ER-does-but-at-80mph count as hazmat awareness?

    Private ambulances and calls?

This guy seems to know what he's talking about... Seriously, I don't even work there, but I see them almost every shift and I couldn't make a stronger recommendation than suck it up, move to Bakersfield, and go work for Hall. It's the single best thing you could do for your EMS career. I have...

    What was your first call?

I forgot, my real first call first EMT ride along was a 2 year old who pulled a lot of boiling water over herself, partial thickness burns over 60-70% and when you picked her up her skin peeled away.

    What was your first call?

First call as an EMT was a code 2 abdominal pain for several weeks, 350lbs, waiting for us at the sidewalk. First call of internship was a 2 patient MVC and we transported both in our unit.

    Schools

Where you go to EMT school is fairly unimportant. Go wherever gets it done quickest, or wherever is cheapest, or wherever is the most convenient schedule or commute. That's what's going to make a difference.
