    Time and a half pay

As stated, definitely the norm. OT is after your 40 hours, as required by law. Not required after 8 hours, at least in NJ. Would be nice though, considering I work either 12's or 16's.

    EMT vs First Responder

If he needs to go, he will eventually go. Could be a personal thing, could be something everyone has a problem with.

    Major Issue With New Partner

I think the biggest mistake at this point is that you continue to stay. As many have said, if they company neglects to act, they are just as bad. I would say it is best to remove yourself from that situation. Is you life worth the job? There are others out there.

What do you do to pass the time?

My down time is usually spent on Facebook, EMTLife, catching up on sleep or watching TV via various means. I also try to take some online CEU classes occasionally and be productive.

Ellenville EMT breaks rules to help 4-year-old

Agreed. If you choose to break the rules, regardless of how little they make sense or whether or not your agree with them, you should expect to suffer the consequences. Sure, maybe he did it for a good cause, but that does not change the fact that rules were breaking. I think this applies...

    Working Christmas Day

Worked Christmas every year for past three years. One of the busiest days I work every year.

Dispatch and effective handling of "where are they coming from?"

I do not see a problem with asking this questions. My best response would be to tell the truth, if known. Sometimes it makes a difference. One hospital that we regularly go to is in a big residential area. Some people might prefer to drive themselves to the hospital 30 seconds away vs wait 5+...

Not sure of applicable state laws, but on a federal level, light duty IS NOT required to be provided by the employeer. If the employee has been employeed for a minimum of 12 months, company has 50+ employees and a minimum of 1250 hours have been worked, leave is required. See...

    Was I wrong?

I again state that I completely disagree. It is a matter of scope of practice. You are trained and certified to do the exact same things. If there is no need for ALS, its BLS. One EMT has the same training as the next. Them feeling comfortable is different but not mean they shouldnt

One Year Experience Required for Employment

Your best bet is to start with IFT. It gets you used to the equipment and driving an ambulance. It also allows you to learn a lot about patients, their conditions, and medications. It is a great way to practice with skills, assessment and vitals. Many 911 jobs require experience, especially...

    Was I wrong?

I disagree, I do not think this is a consideration, at least in EMS. I can speak from a New Jersey EMT POV, an EMT is an EMT. If something is within an EMTs scope, they should be able to do it. If you are hired as an EMT, whether you have been in the jobs for 6 days or 6 years, you should at...

    Police or EMS matter?

I would do the transport, but just to have the situation without argument. There are many instances in which PD could (or should) do a transport but turf it to EMS. For example, many psychological patients are medically stable. At my volunteer department, police do not have an issue...
