    Drug seeking patient signs?

This is going to be off topic, but I'm looking for information on why someone would be receptive to one opiate and not another. I can move to it's own topic if preferred. I've found that morphine and hydrocodone do little for me, but oxycodone and dilaudid work wonderfully, and in rather...

    Free online NREMT Basic CEU's?

Thank you to everyone for the help. I've been doing the Bound tree (need 16hrs conveniently).. .and as I'm entering them I notice they say they are DE credits. Why is that significant? can I only have so many DE credits as part of my CEUs?

    Free online NREMT Basic CEU's?

I was doing a search online for some free web based training classes to finish up some CEU's for my NREMT recertification coming up very quickly. With WI not requiring the NREMT certification to stay current, my recert date snuck up on me. While I can let it lapse and just maintain my WI cert...

    the 100% directionless thread

I brew my own honey mead. Love it, cheaper than anything else, and better than most other things I could buy. I also tend to drink less beer and more mixed spirits. Rum and coke, whiskey on the rocks, etc... I find it agrees with me the next morning better than beer does.

Why are Paramedics paid so little?

I feel like we're getting bogged down with the possibility of over or under triaging a cardiac emergency based on a 12-lead. This can't happen. I can't triage anything using a 12-lead. I don't obtain a 12-lead until after I've traiged the PT. Once I've made my transport decision and possible...

Why are Paramedics paid so little?

so is there no value at all in allowing a provider to apply, acquire, and transmit a 12-lead to the ED ahead of their arrival? Especially when considering a 20min transport time in a rural area, and the additional lead time needed to call in the needed personnel for the Cath-lab if required...

Why are Paramedics paid so little?

I think there is nothing wrong with a Basic applying a 12-lead then transmitting the telemetry to the ED and allow the on call DR to look it over while we're en-route. As a basic rig, we don't need to interpret considering there is little we can do in the field aside from O2, ASA, assist with...

How old were you when you moved out?

didn't read 3 pages of stuff but wanted to comment. Military. if you want to go into emergency service, try Navy, go in as Medic, train with Marines. You'll get paid, given (sometimes) 3 hots, and a cot (maybe), then have hands on experience, certifications, and free college when you get out...

    Nightwatch comes to Tampa, Florida!

I have to admit I didn't like the new one as well as NOLA. Probably because it seemed less focused on EMS and more focused on police. Still good, but not quite what I came to like about nightwatch.

    Personal History Statements!

I've filled out a couple of EPSQ's for military security clearances, not only is it residence, it's neighbors, friends, co-workers, address and phone numbers for all of them, and how you knew them, etc.... doesn't take long to keep a master file either in paper in a lock box, or encrypted in a...

    Nightwatch comes to Tampa, Florida!

I think it also comes down to the size of the rig and who is doing what. I've run with groups where you really did feel like the third wheel. While the other two AEMT's were tending to the PT, I (EMT) just sat in the air chair and documented everything. Helps us get back into the shed faster...

    Nightwatch comes to Tampa, Florida!

define ALS. We are not medics, but we do have AEMTs, and considering our extended transport times and rural nature, our EMTs have a slightly expanded scope of meds from the national registry, but I wouldn't consider it ALS. And by meds I mean EMTs can give albuteral, ASA, narcan, epi...

    Nightwatch comes to Tampa, Florida!

so I'm not the only one that has yelled at the TV while watching nightwatch NO. "oh possible CHF, hey can you walk over to the cot?" dafuq? Honestly though I like the show. I like running the scenarios in my head and think "what would I do, what can I do in my scope, etc..." then to see...

    Stethoscope - The Mega Thread

I've heard (no pun intended) that the cardiology III is nicer than the classic II because it has two tubes instead of one. It sounds (no pun intended) that the Classic III has the same two tube design. I'm wondering if for half the price, the classic III is a solid scope. I'm a bit deaf and...

    Crosswords for EMTs?

Playing a scenario on Resuscitation now. Wow i'm terrible, then again I'm a basic, so I have some idea of what is wrong with the child, but no idea how to intervene outside of my scope of practice. Sadly the things in my scope are having no affect.

What to review when EMT-B class is over?

About to say, if you're not certified yet, study what you did in class. Go over your signs and symptoms of everything you can find in your book.. Know the difference between the different levels of shock, go back over the difference in symptoms between hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, know...

Do the clothes really make the man?

Well as a volunteer we don't live in our suits so that would work well for us, longest calls are like 3 hours page out to walking back in the door at home, but I can certainly see why it would be less desirable if you wear one all day long.
