Hey Joy! Just posting to say I haven't forgotten you. I can't get on chat anymore because the jerks in charge put a 150 post minimum for chatting. Got aim/msn/etc...?

    ems pratical jokes

Brilliant! One of my friends back in high school has a fake leg as well, and I'm pretty sure we've played similar pranks on people that don't know him...

    Dating and beyond in EMS

Knowing a (strikingly attractive) friend of mine who was a patient who had a nasty concussion (and a complication or two), who woke up in the back of a rig looking up at a georgeous blonde paramedic... not all stories end badly. She came to check up on him a day later in the hospital, and one...

    Help me cope with sharps

I had the same thing when I started as an SR-P on top of my EMR certification. My thing: constantly think to myself: "Is it pointy" (y/n?) if yes, "Have you finished with it on the patient?" (y/n), if yes, dispose, if no, why is it still in the patient? :-P Just make sure wherever you're...

    Back from EMS Expo 2008...

Sweet shot! (Side note/question from a fellow 'tographer: What are the legalities with regard to EMS photography? How do you deal with releases, etc...? Do you follow in a POV, or do you end up travelling with the dispatched rig?) (Feel free to reply via PM if you want)

    Back from EMS Expo 2008...

True! Though PHTLS podcasted their "Trauma: A-Z" lectures from the JEMS convention from a year or two back. Those are some of my favourite podcasts to listen to (both because the lecturers are hilarious, and the content is good.) Maybe we'll see more stuff like that appearing, where companies...

    Back from EMS Expo 2008...

Awesome! Do you know if they're going to podcast any of the CE lectures, and/or did you take any good photos for those of us who can't/couldn't go? (I'm not saying post them now, if you just got home, but just curious if there is...) -S

    Code driving

Words to live by. "It's not your emergency" from one of my old instructors comes to mind. Bringing calm to an otherwise chaotic situation is the job of emergency services. The most experienced paramedics get calmly (but with focus) out of their rigs, even on calls that would freak out most people.

OMG! People are getting nuts, this happen in my area!

To add to that, a cop that was doing a drug seminar at NCEMSF last year had a story about a guy that managed to chew/tear himself out of his handcuffs... again, PCP. (also, 2-3 tazers, 5 cops, etc...) (Robin williams voice: ) "It's a hell of a drug"

    Cadet Steals & Crashes Ambulance

They might not get a new truck, maybe insurance will pay for a re-certified (whatever they call "reconditioned") truck... Usually about 15k$ IIRC? Gotta love stupidity. It costs everyone.

Ambulance, sheriff's car hit by several drunk drivers

... yeah, but read even more carefully... "Law enforcement officials are still looking for the female driver of the black Honda Civic or Accord that hit the ambulance. The car has substantial damage to the front end." How do you LOSE the driver of a vehicle that head-ons an ambulance?

7 Dead, 2 Injured In Medical Copter Collision

We spent quite a huge chunk of time on this during our training. It's not a simple call, and should be a thorough (but quick) discussion between dispatchers and on-scene responders. Quick confirmations about the patient's current status and immediate risks that require expedited or specialist...
