    Bit Worried

Great post and dead on with my view of EMS. I was going through a divorce when I was in nursing school, it was very difficult but I was fortunate and honestly, blessed (for reasons unknown). I had a couple jobs that paid well in the county, low call volume (which allowed me to sleep and...

Just another regular dialysis patient....so it was supposed to be.

So when the nurse takes a phone order from a doctor and tries to initiate the order while you run in and save the day, are you following the doctor or are you stepping out of your boundaries? Apparently, the OP was to take this patient back home or wherever, they were never called there; it...

    Paramedic vs. RN

According to indeed, paramedics make 50k and RN's 73k (8k more a year than my area). What does this RN teacher guy do? Work 4 hours a week as a Nurse? Link for RN http://www.indeed.com/salary?q1=RN&l1=hudson+valley Link for paramedic...

    Paramedic vs. RN

So, in your other post you stated they made 50k and in the last post, the 10th percentile makes about 57k (which that is a VERY low percentage of RNs in the Seattle area) and the majority making between 63 and 77k per year. Which is it?

    Paramedic vs. RN

    Paramedic vs. RN

50k in the Seatle area? That's a little hard to believe. Let me do some research :D I was looking at a travel job (which does pay more) and it was around 45/hr in the Oregon, Washington, California area.

    I'm gonna run

Can you at least give information to the other members regarding ambulance and other public safety topics?

    Paramedic vs. RN

I can't believe people make more per hour as a paramedic than as a RN. Even as a flight medic I made far less than I made when I was hired as a new nurse.

Rant about how much volunteers are hurting our profession

First of all, you have a certification not a license. Secondly, someone who performs as a EMT(any level) on a fulltime basis tend to be more experienced, competent, and educated (most EMS services require education on top of their CEU's that are required for recert) than a volunteer. I...

Just another regular dialysis patient....so it was supposed to be.

This again eh.. As a nurse working in the hospital (ER and SICU) we have protocols and standing orders that we do not have to have a "doctor tell us what to do". Many of the protocols in the ER are similar to my EMS protocols and others are more invasive than my paramedic protocols on the...

    Fluids for CHF?

When people say things like "push the fluid back" or "numbing the heart"; I'm sure they are just repeating things they've heard from preceptors, instructors, or other uneducated morons who "know it all". We don't have CPAP on the ground units here. NTG, Albuterol, Morphine, and Lasix are...

    BLS vs. ALS

I can agree with that, EMS is a professional all by itself. It shouldn't be the :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored::censored: child of the FD or PD (I've worked for a PD/EMS before, horrible idea).

Just another regular dialysis patient....so it was supposed to be.

Did the patient ever consent to being treated/transported? He "feels fine", why would he want to go to the hospital? ..Other than 2 rookie-asses jumping around like a couple of monkeys :censored::censored::censored::censored:ing a football.

Just another regular dialysis patient....so it was supposed to be.

Nope :D It's one story, and another story, then the other story but this time the other basic is a medic who works as a basic who tells paramedics working as such that they know what's best for the patient and off they went. I think that clears it up.

Trying to find white under uniform shirt, suggestions?

hydrogen peroxide takes blood out of clothes nicely. Target has a nice under-armor type knock off that I wear for my undershirts. I'm pretty sure they have long sleeve, I only buy the sleeve-less ones.

    ambulance driver insurance?

Most EMS services require you to be 21, you may look at being a Tech in the ER or a dispatcher until you're 21. That's what I did, I was on-call at a transfer service when I turned 21 and worked full time as a dispatcher.

    dispatcher to paramedic

That's similar to how I started out. While doing basic rotations in the ER, I was offered a job (that hospital owns/operates the EMS service for the city and county). Six months into my ER tech job, my friend who was in basic class and was a dispatcher told me about a job, so I interviewed and...

Rant about how much volunteers are hurting our profession

I agree with Rid's last point. I know several volunteers that "triage by address" and won't answer up for calls unless it's something "good". I've had to respond to several calls because non of the volunteers would answer up or were unavailable. I know there are several volunteer EMS...

Wasn't there a super trooper-type EMS moving in the making? I swore I saw a thread on that long ago on another EMS forum.
