    MAP Question

Can't argue that SOME nurses don't fit that profile, there are; but not the majority in my experience. As an RN, I precepted many student nurses whose instructors I met on the floor. A large portion were CCRNs, CENs, etc. One instructor was a DNP in Critical Care. They also taught didactics. The...

    MAP Question

This is the "question" I was replying to. There are plenty of CC-experienced nurses teaching nursing students. I had 4 at my school. And there are plenty of others in the other schools here.

    MAP Question

Lack of CC experienced nursing school instructors.

    Umm, not true.

Why doesn't this apply to EMTs and Paramedics in the private sector?

More than likely someone in the legislature thought without codifying it, it would apply. Or, they intentionally intended it only for municipal workers since their Workman's Comp is paid by state and/or municipalities and private EMS's WC is paid by the employer.

    EMS Changing Names

The fact they recommended something specific, paramedicine, was good. Not three or four different titles. However, since EMS started as an emergency service with EMTs and EMT-Paramedics, leaving it as is is ok in my mind.

    Medic from Non-Emergent to 911

You've answered your own question. Move on. Burnt out, bored, no continuing education, no benefits. But you do have experience now. As for lapsed certs, NEVER let certs lapse unless you are SURE you'll never need them again. Follow through on your application. Don't look back.

    MAP Question

Do your parameters allow you to round at all? And if so, basic Drug Calc 101 says to round up, not down, at 0.5 and above. And if the MAP is that high, you're probably going to need to address it sooner rather than later; especially if it's trending up as another response said.

    MAP Question

First, 0.5 and above, round up. Secondly, why is someone of your stature and experience asking this question? Curious.

Am I an idiot for becoming an EMT with a college degree?

You're happy? Enough said. Go for your medic and with a degree, you can probably move up the food chain.

    Hurricane Dorian

Signed up for disaster relief through Florida Board of Nursing as well as through my Florida Paramedic license. Nothing heard. They f*ck you at the drive thru!

End tidal C02 at BLS level

Do EMTs know that COPD patients are hypercapnic as a baseline? Just asking as I'm not in the field.

End tidal C02 at BLS level

But we're talking EMTs, not medics. Your examples speak to medic-medicine, not Basics.

End tidal C02 at BLS level

The more you add diagnostic adjuncts, or "tools" to the BLS toolbox, the more you solidify the argument for getting rid of EMTs and going full-medic. In Tropic Thunder terms, "full retard".

    Paramedic or LPN???

If EMS would get their sh*t together, this disjointed mess would slowly go away. The whole public, private, mixed public/private, etc. responders. Requiring a degree or not, NREMT gets you a license or every state like NCLEX-RN does, and ... whether or not to have just medics and no EMTs. NOTE...

    Paramedic or LPN???

So what benefit does a paramedic certification bring to me? In your specific case, no benefit. In the general sense, it provides for, in the field or ED, operating at an advanced level. But, I agree, no one HAS to move up to medic. In a relative analogy, a large portion of our CNAs have no...

To Degree or Not to Degree. That is The Question.

"I used to work in EMS" sounds like what someone would say in a 12 Step support group! Seriously, I used to work in EMS many years ago, and after starting my third career in 2016 (RN), I ran into a newly retired FF/PM at our ACLS class. As we were going through heart rhythms, he said I was...

To Degree or Not to Degree. That is The Question.

Just got my Prehospital Emergency Care journal for July/August 2019. Check out the article in the Position Statements section on pgs 593-595: National Association of EMS Educator's Position on the Critical Care Paramedic. Speaks specifically about going to a Baccalaureate for the CCP. DOI...
