Best degree(s) to get to be paramedic/FF/nurse

I really love medicine, but it attracts the worst people sometimes. Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

How were they treated differently? Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

Best degree(s) to get to be paramedic/FF/nurse

Why not? Seriously, would they treat him differently? Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

    Who can be held liable?

I don't disagree, but there are times when it seems justified to me. I recall one instance where just based on the radio traffic there was a question about weather disregarding was appropriate. The BLS unit on scene advised something along the lines of the pt was "confused but refusing care". I...

    Who can be held liable?

I encounter this in my agency sometimes, there is a local volunteer agency that sometimes will disregard us before we arrive, while personally I have no problems with this I know that some of my co-workers are very resistant to doing this and at times even will just continue their response...

    Denver Metro Med Control Recordings

I swear there use to be a page that had recordings of calls that EMS made to medical control from denver metro with an analysis of the call and the interaction of EMS with their medical control. Does anyone know where I can find this?

    Intoxicated refusals w/ trauma

What do you mean that you have the police "pink slip" them?

    Who can be held liable?

I would imagine he would be responsible for disregarding you. Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

    Intoxicated refusals w/ trauma

Well and that's what finally happened after much convincing. What got me about it was the second they got him in the ED the nurse signed him out ama without a second thought. So I know my partner really had sone second thoughts about it. Maybe I'm wrong but frankly, I think the ED should have...

Why are we often looked down upon as a profession?

I think that's completely reasonable. I really wish that someone had told me years ago that as a nurse I could just sit for the paramedic exam and get certified, I would have done that. I work for a fire based agency (I know I know, they are the devil) but at least my pay and retirement benefits...

    Intoxicated refusals w/ trauma

I suppose that's a good point. Sometimes I wonder how the physicians feel about taking that responsibility. I think that if I were in medical controls shoes, i would be a) pretty agitated that the liability for a refusal, of a patient j never saw came back on me and b) want to be very thorough...

    Intoxicated refusals w/ trauma

I totally agree that med control should be looked at as a resource, and I think that in a lot of systems it works that way. In cases like this though I definitely get the vibe from med control that I am being nothing more than an nuisance. Particularly when the conversation goes along the lines...

    Intoxicated refusals w/ trauma

Well I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks that way and I'm also glad that other people seem to have the same issues with these that I have. Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

    Intoxicated refusals w/ trauma

I appreciate the reply, I think that I overanalyze refusals sometimes and have the your in my custody approach sometimes when maybe it's not necessary, it's something that i am going to work on. It just gets so hairy taking someone legitimately against their will, I can't help but think about...

    Intoxicated refusals w/ trauma

How do you guys handle these calls? such as Intoxicated individual, able to walk but with an unsteady gait, slurred speech. Definitely drunk unknown number of drinks, bystanders report that he was in a fight where he was kicked in the head repeatedly noted to have a 2cm laceration to the front...

Why are we often looked down upon as a profession?

See, this is where i see the gap between EMS and RN's. I think that it has a lot to do with context. RN's get Bachelors degree's so they have to go through A&P Chem, bio chem, Pathophysiology etc. I really think that having that background knowledge is so important, and so lost in EMS

Why are we often looked down upon as a profession?

I guess that I have only worked in ER's, I was a tech for a awhile before I got my paramedic and now work for a fire dept. The way that you describe it makes it sound a lot more appealing than what I had in my head I guess. Where do you work now? Could we talk more? I'm thinking about going back...

Why are we often looked down upon as a profession?

I've really wanted to ask about this. People that have become nurses, how has it compared to being a medic? I've thought a lot about it but I sorry about being an ER robot and only doing what is ordered. Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk

Why are we often looked down upon as a profession?

Reading these kinds of threads makes me want to get out of the profession. It's like I get this feeling that I'm not a "professional" and that the perception of EMS as, poorly trained, certification only, taxi drivers by the health care system is never going to change. I try to stay resilient...
