    Ride along update!

I forgot to update :D I did my first ride along 2 Sundays ago at a fire station and it was AWESOME. I was assigned one station, and they weren't expecting me, because they hadn't read the calendar ahead, but it was fine thankfully. They also had a paramedic student there for the morning who...

I know about the food :) I'm a pretty good baker, so I'm doing up a batch of chocolate chip cookies today, and will make a batch of the world's most awesome blueberry muffins tomorrow morning so I can take them in hot and fresh ^_^ Thanks for the advice - will let you know how it goes!

    First ride along on Sunday!

I'm SO excited! 14 hour shift with the local FD, and I know a few guys from that FD and I think they'll all be pretty welcoming and friendly. So what should I make sure I know so I don't look like an idiot?? Vital signs being the obvious one. I guess make sure I know all my acronyms -...

    Chicago Fire

I was so bummed when Trauma was cancelled. Mostly because I was an extra on it, and had so much fun :D I got through maybe 15 minutes of Chicago Fire and had to turn it off. I'm sure it'd be fine if I knew nothing about the industry.

    Trauma assessment on teddy bears

:P I certainly use other students during class, but at home, the only time I get to practice stuff is when I'm home alone... hence the teddy bear!

    Trauma assessment on teddy bears

Studying for the skills portion of EMT class, and I have a teddy bear as my victim. He makes for a very realistic unresponsive patient... Someone else has been using a pillow. Another student suggested a blow up doll... Go on, what random things have you used as a patient??

How to force myself to quit EMS

Maybe you should go into training? Find an area where you can teach aspects of EMS - sounds like you'd be an excellent instructor - book smarts combined with real life experience.

CERT is pretty active in my city/county, and I'm pretty involved at the moment - currently working on the neighbourhood disaster plan and getting the neighbourhood actively involved.

    Phone app/field guide

Hi all! I'm just starting out my EMT training, and just got an email with links for EMS field guides and phone apps. (D'oh - apparently I don't have enough posts to put up the specific links!) How useful are these kind of things for studying/working? Does anyone have a preference for...
