What a great, detailed response. So if the left ventricle is not contracting properly, would it cause pulmonary edema due to a backup of blood into the lungs? Also, would this (the failure of the left vent. to pump adequately) essentially be the same as cardiogenic shock?
Try not to be too nervous. Usually the EMTs or medics you are riding with are fairly eager to teach you and know that you are just a student. They aren't going to try to make you look stupid. As long as you know the things you are supposed to, you have nothing to worry about. My advise is to...
How was your last question? If you feel pretty sure you got the last question right, you probably passed. If you made a blind guess on the last question, it doesn't look as good.
My results were posted on the website around 9am the first business day after my exam. However, I took the test...
Yep. Not too long ago they started their own in-house paramedic academy for the Basics on staff. They admit up to 15 of their top EMTs to the academy. Regardless, all Basics and Intermediates have to be in medic school somewhere within one year of getting hired. Getting into their paramedic...
I'm applying for Guilford County EMS. I've heard they're pretty picky, some of my instructors are paramedics there. I just finished at Guilford College.
How much non-EMS related experience should I include in a resume? For example, will they care that I was Student Government President in...
Thanks for the input. I just feel like its a fine line between selling myself and seeming like I am totally full of myself. I'm probably over-thinking this whole thing, I just really want the job. I appreciate all the suggestions, this forum has been an amazing resource.

It also makes a difference in cases of spinal cord injury and paralysis.
I just passed the National Registry and will be taking the state exam this week, so I am almost ready to apply for a paid position with my county service (Guilford County EMS).
The application is online, but allows you to attach documents. Should I attach a resume even though the application...
In my EMT class, the practical finals for the class counted as our National Registry practical. One of the instructors just had to go into the nremt.org website and verify that each of us had passed. You may want to contact one of your instructors or the school where you went.
I just finished Basic class the beginning of this month with the AAOS book, "Emergency Care and Transport.." We were taught to stabilize flail segments with a bulky dressing during the rapid trauma assesment after checking for JVD, tracheal deviation, etc.
We no longer carry activated charcoal on the county trucks in my area. I don't know why... We are pretty much always within 20min transport time of a hospital, but it still seems like that time could make a big difference in the case of an overdose.
Assuming that you are allowed and able to...
