What's the dumbest thing you've said to a patient?

We had a older woman who spoke no English. I asked the daughter if she could ride in the ambulance to translate. She said yes so I said, "good because I don't speak Spanish." She gave me a weird look and an LEO turned to me and said, "she is speaking in Polish." Woops:rofl:

What to do when you need help?

I more meant that if some guy with a gun was with us and I didn't want him to know what I was doing. We have no codes but if I said we are 10-20 instead of we need police. The outcome may be different.

What to do when you need help?

That's good that they are quick about their response. Yea we have 5 officers on at a time. Usually we get one LEO. In a town we respond mutual aid into, the record was 4 officers for an elderly lady who had a near syncopal. We rolled up and I thought there was a stabbing or something.

What to do when you need help?

Yea. I always thought it was funny that where I am in a wealth suburban neighborhood always get PD on scene yet rural and urban areas don't get PD unless there is an actual need. I am afraid to go into some of the houses around here without PD. I can't imagine in a city with a much higher crime...

What to do when you need help?

I agree but it is also a little unnecessary for us as EMS because we do get PD with us on most of our calls.

What to do when you need help?

My agency has disabled all of the panic buttons on our radios do to an incident where an officer accidentally hit the button and while he was chasing a person down the street, his swearing was broadcast over the radio. It was actually pretty funny. bu i was wondering what some people do if you...

    The EMS mess?

He makes some valid points. People, even on this forum, are very quick to discount many elements of EMS (back boarding, code 3 transport, ACLS drugs) People say that ALS doesn't help outcomes then they turn around and say that BLS is a waist. Helicopters are more dangerous then they are worth...

    Recovery Position

OK. Well thank you for the quick reply. I thought it was weird that the question would include the part of the ladder if they just expected lifeguards to disregard the possible spinal injury.

Do you know if this has been recently started to be used or am I just being forgetful?

    Recovery Position

Thank you mycrofft. I don't remember that from EMT class. The question was after I had taken my recert for LG but I didn't take the first aid portion of the class because they let me skip it since I am an EMT. I guess I should have attended it. Haha

    Recovery Position

I'm not sure about the recovery position that maintains c spine. My point is that if they are maintaining their own airway at that time, then why compromise cspine unnecessarily.

    Recovery Position

It is from a LG book so it didn't go into that much detail but I'm assuming when they say he is breathing, they mean adequately.

    Recovery Position

I understand that airway trumps spinal but the question stated they were breathing so the airway is open. I guess it is possible for it to close but in the time it would take to leave and tell someone to call 911 and return, that doesn't seem like it would affect the pt.
