    Medic One

I meant Medic One Medical Response out of Illinois. I forgot that there were other 'Medic Ones' out there. Just used to seeing them in Texas.

    EMT without medical direction

I worked for a nationwide company that did mostly clinics at job sites. We were in a convention center doing first responder type calls. We also handed out OTC meds. I got nervous about doing this with no medical direction. Their protocols were geared for clinics and didn't address the type of...

Dallas City Ambulance Attendant Driver permit

Transportation department is tasked with enforcing the permit rule. They also like to do ramp checks at hospitals. I saw them write a ticket at Parkland one day. EMT thought his receipt was a temporary permit, even though it states it is not. Cost him $250. Picking up in Dallas without a permit...

    Preventing Fraud-"Medical Necessity"

Some of the problem is companies that send back your chart because your narrative doesn't match the medical necessity paper work. PCS says O2 required, and the patient isn't on O2, you don't use O2 and your chart gets kicked back wanting to know why. PCS says bed confined and you chart met at...

EMS crew caught sleeping in ambulance

"They messin' with peeple's lives? Hey doofus, if they weren't napping they could easily make a mistake in patient care from exhaustion. EMS is it's own worst enemy. We don't educate people in what we do, or why they see us doing some things, such as napping on post. I've been doing this for...

Preferred type of shirt while working?

Anything but white. No matter how sharp you start out the shift, halfway through it you look like a rag bag.

    Ambulance Acquisition Report

I tried that in 1980. Took two board members to look at two ambulances. One was a Summers/Dodge van, still under conversion, and a Collins/Ford. They liked the Collins, and balked at the Dodge because we had two that were hanger angels. The next week a Prestige salesman showed up with a demo...

    Ambulance Acquisition Report

Find a manufacturer that will build to your specs then present it to your BOD. My experience with EMS BOD's is if you confuse them with facts you're screwed. Keep it simple and to the point and you should be able to get what you want.

Have you cleaned out your voice mail? Last time I called it was full. You still an EMT or did you get your medic?
