Well...
Im not saying i did it. But when i was a single 20 year old, volunteering at a small rural department out in the county.. sure i might have considered it.
Not saying it would have been the smartest decision, but i wouldnt say i was the smartest kid back then. haha
I somewhat misspoke here...
But once C-Spine has been started (head stabilization), the entire algorithm needs to be completed before the decision is made unless they fail something then the rest of the algorithm doesn’t necessarily need to be completed.. Unless they refuse, then inform them...
i know im going to get slammed for this but...
I dont do it, but honestly... in specific circumstances... i dont see what the big deal is.
I could see it happening if they werent a frequent flier... If they were to look me up on facebook, say they appreciated the response, and also...
Im glad you posted this...
I hate the word "clear" when talking about C-spine because it means TOTALLY different things to different people...
I never clear a c-spine because to me, the definition involves imaging and i dont have the ability to do that in the field.
I do a C-Spine...
i probably wouldnt have gone with the refusal also... it doesnt hurt anything...
I think you did a fine job. I would have had an ambulance come... i would have offered transport, signed a refusal, write a report, log the call... and then go home for dinner :)
Hmmm...
I dont disagree that they deal with more people, and deal with more cash, and that it is dangerous. All that is correct.
I think the legal liabilities EMTs face are far greater than that of a fast food worker. I also think that the level of responsibility is FAR greater as an EMT...
i think there is another thought to consider though...
the amount of responsibility and liability we have compared to working at jack in the crack... it is night and day difference. That type of difference should effect monetary compensation.
EDIT: let me be clear. i am not complaining at all...
Just to be clear... this is ONE of the things. They did not use the words "memorize". There were plenty of important things they want us to know. They said that these were things we should be familiar with before academy.
im glad im not the only one...
i was pretty perplexed. I feel like we typically establish the origin naturally...
If someone calls for a broken leg, and we get there, and its a broken leg... we of course would know that that injury is a "Trauma"....
we dont need a mnemonic to establish...
After posting this i realized that im being incredibly vague in what i am asking...
Im really wondering if people use this in their assessment and move through the entire mnemonic?
Or is this just a guide if youve done your assessment and get stuck not undertsanding what the cause of...
