Setting up Omron Sprague?

Picked up an Omron to play with for class and compare to the Litmann Classic my mom handed down, though I'm not intending to start THAT debate.

Just curious for those using the Omron how you have it set up for working in the field with the bells and diaphragms. I get great sound out of the large diaphragm but nothing when I flip to the smaller diaphragm or swap the small diaphragm with the bell... Am I just an idiot using this wrong?
