Good afternoon.
Sorry to disturb you guys with this question but I am a college student and about a year or two ago I was in a EMT class offered by heritage college okc. I have passed my college test and have done the first half of my test which is performing well in 12 scenarios ... I passed that with flying colors .. Now it's be almost a year and a half and ive already had my course completion certificate but unfortunately I have not yet taken the NREMT test yet ... I became so busy with a family passing away and college started and was focusing to much on that and put off taking the NREMT TEST in the back ... And now that it's been a while I finally have some free time as well as I am not taking too many hours in college ... Can I still take the test and pass it and become an EMT or do I have to retake the entire course .... I really hope not bc I will not have time to and being an EMT in my experience is very interesting bc I want to be a part of something that makes a difference... Please let me know and thank you for your time.

I don't know what the time cut offs are. After a year and a half, I think you are better off taking a refresher at the very least.

Even if I study and pass the NREMT? I really want to be an EMT but don't want to go and retake a course I already passed and pay another 2500$ ... I'm so worried

Baisaclly I've passed everything ... The only thing I haven't is the NREMT this is only bc I had a really busy schedule and time was against me ...

You can do a refresher course, which is basically a cliff notes version of the full class, around here a 24 hour refresher class (gets you all the needed CE hours to recert) costs ~$180 and is 2 weekends (4x 8 hour days).

Oh hey seriously? That doesn't sound to bad ... 2 weeks ? Seems pretty nice ... Do u think there is one in Oklahoma ... Where can I go to get this refresher course .. Who do I have to go to and ask?

Not to sound rude, but you can probably start by asking Google....
Lol haha i knew that ... I just thought I needed to go back to my program that taught me and ask them but it's all good .... So one last questions and I apologize I'm taking u from ur time ... I haven't even taken the NREMT I was looking online and the recourse that I have so far seen are for EMTs who couldn't pass the NREMT even on their third try... Do you think I could still get my EMT certification if I pass that test the first time? ... I guess the reason why I'm asking this is that I don't want to work so hard for something I may or may not get... So I just wanted to know is there a chance that I could get the license if I go and take the test and pass

Google dude. From the NREMT website. "Successful completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course that meets or exceeds the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician. You must have completed the course within the past two years. Your Program Director must verify your successful completion of the course on the NREMT website. "

The test isn't long, it takes a few hours in the morning. I know life gets busy, but there has to be time somewhere within that year and a half to set aside a few hours. Don't let it lapse.

I'd still suggest the refresher, because after 1.5 years, you are going to have forgotten things. It will do you a lot of good as far as your chances of passing go too.

You probably will have to redo your skills cause i believe those are only good for one year

I am almost certain that each portion of the test is good for one year after taking it. Call nremt on monday to verify

Wait so it would be better just to take the 250$ one week recourse? Or since I haven't even taken the NREMT I can not take it at all I passed my EMT main course in Dec 2014 ... I'm sure if I study for a bit I can pass it

Your skills portion has nothing to do with a refresher. You'll have to find a place to test you if it truly is expired

Thats a good point I didnt think of. I had my skills test (state test) then the NREMT. You may be good for NREMT, but not skills. You need to call and.ask to know for sure.

Becoming an EMT is a great choice, you should definitely pursue it
Well I'm only 20 ... I want to become a medical physician (ER physician) to be precise .... I just want to be a part of something that matters and makes a difference.... EMT/ paramedics are like the greatest people I have yet to know... No doctor I know can do what a paramedic can in such a short time in such precise manner with very few tools to help

With your demonstrated limited initiative and inability to test in a timely manner, you'll be a perfect EMT for EMSA. They don't like you folks to have drive or initiative.
