What do you do to take a break from EMS/medicine/nursing/whatever?

Title says it all.

As my current schedule winds down I am rediscovering things I actually enjoy like travel, going to the theatre, watching movies, listening to music, and reading books that have nothing to do with medicine.

What do you do to get away from work?

I enjoy hiking, swimming, camping and fishing personally. Going to the river this weekend actually.

I find serenity in relaxing and playing video games for endless hours.

I'm otherwise a huge fitness buff and spend most of my free time in the gym, lifting things up and putting them down.

During my time, I rarely had a day off. So, inbetween runs, as a man, I would cross stitch! Yup! Big man was cross stitching! Made quite a few of them as well!

I like to read, spend time with the fam, hang out with friends. I also like to sew, quilt, and decorate cakes.

Crossfit, row and be nerdy. With occasional attempts at cooking.

Weight lifting, boxing.

I play guitar and do a bit of singing. Nothing more relaxing than sitting down with an acoustic after a long stressful shift, and playing/singing a favourite song well. :p Your mind/body is in the song!

"Away from work"? What is this "away" of which you speak, I know not of it...

I'm another meat-head who lifts things up and put them down.

I read (around 3 books a week) and play guitar (badly) and play some computer games. When we get the chance my wife and I like to travel, and we spend a fair bit of time in Thailand every year.

Running and cycling. Starting to get back into good shape, so I should be competing in both again pretty soon :D

Hiking and day trips are also common occurrences. Especially now that my schedule is going to slow down tremendously :D

I make an effort to see friends.

It isn't really a break though because half my friends are work friends and we always end up "Did you HEAR what happened on so and so's shift!?!?!"

We tend to hang out with co-workers also..but we have a "no work talk rule" that is enforced...violaters get heckled, buy booze etc.

Talking shop with friends is fun to a point. For me it was for the first 20 years of my career. Making me pretty much known for my work not the quality of man I am or would hopefully one day become. So any chance to get away from work I usually jump at it. Love making friends and talk about absolutely nothing related to work.
