    Rude/Nasty Partners

I've had some interesting partners in the two months I've been working as an EMT for an IFT company. Most of my partners are easy to work with and they're nice people but a few have been the complete opposite... two examples; 1. There is a guy who I only worked with once and he has only...

    New EMT, Ambulance Companys?

I was very worried about finding a job in this economy but I found a job in a little less than three weeks. I had two job offers in one day and started this past Monday. I also received a call from PRN offering me a job this past week but since I already had a job and they needed me full-time, I...

becoming a Paramedic with a DUI

Are you sure about this? I had a lot of tickets (all minor traffic violations) in 2005/2006 which required me to have an SR22 for three years until just a couple months ago and my current employer is having trouble getting me insured even though I haven't had a ticket in almost 4 years. The H6...

So I got what I ordered for my uniform for my EMT-B Clinicals...

:P That's why I washed my uniforms as soon and I got them home. ;) Anyway, I know what the OP is talking about. For me, it wasn't so much the uniform but when I went on my ride-along, it just felt like I knew I was doing what is best for me and I knew I'd be happy working in EMS. I think...

    Thoughts on new boots

What do you think of 5.11? I just bought a pair of 5.11 (ATAC 6). I've never worn boots before so I wanted to start out very lightweight and not too high. Plus it doesn't get very cold here and I'm only doing IFT at the moment.

    Hiring process

There is actually much more involved with their hiring process. This is from their website; "Using P.O.S.T (Police Officers Standards of Training) guidelines we conduct a neighborhood check in addition to a past employment check which includes speaking with the applicants' previous employers...

    LA County Cert

The best thing to do is call to verify that your live scan if complete, there's an automated system to call but it was telling me that my scan wasn't complete a week after LA County received it, the only reason I found out was because I called LA directly. BRING CASH! If you write a check...

What is the minimum time you should stay at a company?

Thanks for info! I'd be willing to drive a bit to get to a volunteer program. Living in LA I see emergencies around town a lot and when I see the paramedics helping people I always think to myself "That's what I'm supposed to do". :) I really want to get involved in that area of EMS.

What is the minimum time you should stay at a company?

In CA it could be hard to leave an EMS employer out of you resume because your 10 year driver history report (H6) will show what company has requested a "pull notice" for your driving record. I like this company I start with tomorrow but they're not a 911 provider. I'm committed to working 7AM...

What is the minimum time you should stay at a company?

To be respectful to the employer and not have a negative effect on your resume, how long should you stay?

How to get an EMT Job

Hey, loudon I understand your concerns. I had the highest grade in class on the final exam (it was actually a tie, another student had the same grade), a B average for the semester, NREMT exam stopped in the 70's. It's a tough job market and there are a lot of new people just like us who...

    Changes in suctioning guidelines?

(I tired the search function but couldn't find anything.) A few weeks ago I went to a NREMT test prep that was free with a major Los Angeles County EMS provider. We were told that for 2010, suctioning time for an adult was being reduced from 15 to 10 seconds and 10 to 5 seconds for a child...

    Beards and AMR

I'm looking at a packet that I received from AMR when they came to my class and it says "No beards or goatees allowed, due to OSHA regulations".

How to get an EMT Job

Hmm, I had an interview with a company that's starting around that time. ;) They haven't given me a definite decision yet but they've been keeping contact and emailed me today. Now I have an interview with another company tomorrow and I will need to except if they offer me a position. The...

    What made you join EMS?

I can remember being fascinated by ambulances and their equipment since I was a toddler and living in California's "beautiful" San Fernando Valley, I got to see them a lot. I would always ask questions and if I saw a car accident, I would ask my mom to pull over and park so I could watch...

How to get an EMT Job

I decided to go into the local offices of the companies I applied to and asked if they had received my application. One of the companies asked me to take a seat and wait for the supervisor, he came out and we went into his office and went over my application. He asked me to come back for an...

California EMT student with a question about disqualifications

Like others said, if it wasn't a court order it shouldn't be a problem but in states that require an ambulance driver license or endorsement, they will ask if you have alcohol problems. If you are past that, I don't think it would be untruthful to say no on the application. Good luck.

if you responed to a scene with a dead loved one

I'm a little confused, what kind of feedback? Someone posted a while ago in this thread about how it would be especially hard to deal with responding to a call involving their mother and that made me think about my experience. I have not replied since my last post because I have not been...

if you responed to a scene with a dead loved one

I know this is a old thread but I just came across it and would like to share my experience that relates to this issue. In September of 09' I had been in my EMT-B class for a about a month when I got a call from my mom's friend who was staying at her house for a few months. She told me that...
