Hi everyone,

My name is Danny and I live in northern Arizona. Brief history when I was 18 I was a volunteer firefighter in a small town and the chief and captain taught us to be EMTs. Shortly after they made several changes and I let my cert go and left the medical field to go drive truck. Now that I'm back, 35 years old and unemployed I'm wanting to get back into the field.

My questions are. Does anyone know of a good school in AZ that offers EMT training? How long does it take? What careers could I potentially get? We have 2 ambulance services here that I know would be a good start for me plus 3 hospitals in the area. I'm understanding that EMTs work in the ER now too?

Any help would be appreciated and have a great day and nice to meet you all! B)

I believe most EMT programs run about 2 or 3 months if they are full time. Mine was 2 months.

As far as careers, you can get hired on a 911 squad and also work for a private company that does transport. I believe Transport tends to be easier work to get.

Hospitals do indeed hire EMTs.

And of course you can always go to Paramedic school when you feel ready in order to advance your career. From there some choose to become nurses, and you can also look into EMS education.

Best of luck, I am new and I am sure better answers are forthcoming, but hope this is a start.

Thank you for replying. I'm going to do some more research right now on getting into a school here.
