Where the RN qualification started!

I know there are a number of you on this site that are either RN's or looking at becoming one. I found out something yesterday re the history of the RN ,
which I never knew and wanted to share with you all.
It turns out that the State registration of nurses became law in New Zealand in 1901 - the first country in the world to pass such a measure.
Ellen Dougherty became the first RN. Her medal beared the engraved number 1 on it, which is now held at Wellington Hospital in New Zealand's capital city.

That is pretty cool, our nurses here are an awesome bunch who really do great work.
