So I've been Oman mpt training rotation at WBAMC. The active medics there are essentially er techs. As students, we work with them and the nurses. Anyways, we have a nurse there. Said man nurse has a masters degree and is offended by questions like 'what are you giving from pain relief for that kidney stone' or 'why that dose'. Apparently its talking down to him to ask questions because paramedics are only good for bedpans and starting IV s. I would have to have a masters to talk to him. And a masters confers the ability to park a decent nstemi mi in the waiting room for the better part of an hour because his ekg and vitals were normalish. Despite a prior cardiac HD, new onset chest pain with sob, and poor perfusion. So when I pulled the patient to repeat the assessment and get a room from the charge nurse, we had a verbal confrontation. I communicated how little I cared about his college and he kept yelling 'know your place here.'
In short he's everything wrong with professional development based primarily on college achievement only. This Guy is a lazy, crappy nurse. But very well educated. As we professionalize EMS we need to avoid retards like this.
