Hello,

I am a student at Rutgers University hoping to pursue a career as a physician assistant. I would really like to gain some first hand knowledge of the healthcare industry and experience, so I am hoping to become an EMT. With my current course load, I do not think that I would handle an EMT-B course on top of that, so I am looking towards this summer. The only problem with that is, is that I am taking summer classes (chemistry) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-3:30 because there is also a lab component. Does anyone know of any courses during the summer in the southern NJ/Philadelphia area that I would be able to take alongside chemistry?

Matt

All the EMT courses in NJ are listed here: https://njems.rutgers.edu/jsp/cat2/cata_ext.jsp
Make sure to select "EMT Initial Training Course" from the first drop-down and "3 months from today" from the third drop-down.

Also, unless you want to work in PA, you need to take your course in Jersey.

If you talk with a volunteer squad, you can take the course for free through the NJ EMS training fund, provided you stay with the squad for a certain amount of time, generally 1-2 years.

Thank your for the info! I couldn't seem to find any courses that would fit entirely in the summer that wouldn't overlap with my summer chem course. You don't happen to know of anything that will fit my schedule, do you?

If it's not listed there, it doesn't exist. All EMT courses in NJ must be registered with the state and posted on the site.
