First, I want to apologize beforehand if this question has been answered in previous posts. I know that it's good practice to seek for information before asking for it, but I haven't quite found the answers I'm looking for.
I recently was given a job offer with my local fire department, and I start their academy in February 2017. In addition to fire, their academy involves EMT certification all the way through EMT-P. This, to me, is the job offer of a lifetime, and I want to do everything in my power to excel beyond their requirements. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or study material that I can get my hands on to prepare me? Thank you very much in advance.

Tips: Study hard
Tricks: Highlighters and Youtube
Study material: What ever they give you and Youtube.

And if coffee is your thing, buy stock in the brand you buy.

How does this work?
Do they hire you, put you through academy and then pay you to attend paramedic school "on-duty"?
Is this a full-time paid municipal dept?
Does the dept transport or only provide engine-based ALS?

I have known a few depts who hire those with no experience and train all the way through Paramedic and (frankly) have rarely heard about it being a smooth process. In fact, those that I knew of have discontinued the practice. I will wait for your response before I share the obvious pitfalls.

Also, there will not be "excelling" in anything; your goal should be to get through it. If you are going in with no fire or medical experience and expected to be a fully-functioning fire medic at the end, that is a tough road.

"Thick skin" will be your best tool for success.
