hello, im a Gladstone Fire Fighter, who started my EMT basic in September. i have been doing ....decent in class. my problem is i have a really hard time learning from text books. we dont do really any hands on in our class and im falling behind fast due to this.
my question is does anyone know of a website where there is games of tests that help with this? mainly ones that cover chapters rather than the whole EMT basic course its self
thanks

You could try www.emtb.com

Are you in Gladstone, Oregon?

thanks!
yeah I’m finishing up my probation with Gladstone FD right now, ill be off in February, the week as our finals

Where are you doing your Basic? Why haven't you been able to get your hands on anything?

we are doing are basic through another department that is putting it on, with boring Clackamas sandy hoodlinn and us in it.

idk i talked to the instructor midterm and he told me that this next half will be hard for me cause its mainly theory and book work.

there is small hands on like how to do a sling, cbg, stuff like that. but its rare and far in between.

it would just be instead of just reading the power point about musculoskeletal trauma, we would also break in to groups with a dummy and a list of scenario and work it out like a call so it puts it in to perspective. like in fire academy

So I've been thinking about this for a bit and I have a couple of ideas for you. Trauma & medical assessments can be done at home on the cat or dog if you can't find a human to be your patient. I crack myself up but seriously.

Are you in a study group? Outside of class you can practice your assessments on each other. You should be able to find things around the house or maybe even your firehouse that you can use to practice splinting. Is there anyone at the firehouse that can help with any of the skills?

Well the good news is Basic isn't hard and I would bet your time with Gladstone fire will help with the big picture stuff. I'm surprised you haven't had much to any lab time. Lecture is great and all but you need to touch things especially when you get to state testing as it's all skill demonstration.

I know this is short notice but if you are free Saturday and/or Sunday I would suggest volunteering to be a pt at the state exam this weekend. It will be at PCC Cascade campus. I was a volunteer pt when I was going through Basic and it was a great experience. Plus during down time maybe you could get your hands on some equipment to see how it works. If you are interested in this then send me a PM.

haha, yeah i don’t think my dog would be game.

yeah we have a study group but a schedules are so different its hard to get together as a group.

but we try to do it at least once a week.

i think my main problem is i have horrible study habits that i picked up in high school.
i feel like the easiest way for me to learn something is to make mistakes, but i cant do that on patients haha.
so things like online test where they tell you what you got wrong and i can retake it helps me learn it.

like i feel like i have learned more on scene with my fire dept, than i have from the book, now of course i take things that i do remember from the book and apply it on scene. But test in class i bomb

and yeah i would love to do that, we have class all day satuday is it going on in 2 weeks from now?
