So I'm looking for some reciprocity advice because I have spoken to so many offices and have mostly been given the run-around. I need to get NYS reciprocity (original cert is from NJ) asap. I submitted all the paperwork after waiting 3 months for my new CPR from REMSCO and was informed that my NJ cert is over 2 years old and it needs to under 18 months to be granted reciprocity, so I need to take a state practical and written exam (but not an actual course). I was initially told that as long as your cert is under 2 years, NY will be lenient and grant reciprocity, but because I waited so long for my new CPR card, it's over 2 years at this point. From what I understand, my options are as follows:
1. Take a refresher in NJ, which will cost me a fortune and I will end up missing a lot of college time. The offices I spoke to were not clear whether this actually counts as a state written and practical, because I was told by one person the refresher doesn't have a state practical and I was told by another that a refresher will count, so I'm confused. I don't like this option, but if it counts, it seems like the fastest and I'm willing to do it.
2. I can apparently just register for a NY refresher exam with a practical (though I couldn't find testing schedules online that included any info about a practical, just a written) but the next one is April 21 and I desperately need NY cert before then.
3. NREMT. So I don't have this and my cert is 2 years and 2 weeks old, unfortunately. I could take a NJ refresher, apply for NREMT, wait for the results and use this for my NY cert, but I'm not sure it's the fastest route.
Can anyone provide some advice on how to proceed? While cost is certainly an issue, I don't really have any options at this point and will pay what I have to in order to get this done as soon as possible. Thank you.
