OSHA does have authority over ambulance stations in terms of safety hazards; I'm not sure about anything else.

I have heard that OSHA requires access to shower facilities for anyone working a 24 hour shift or greater. Don't think there is any requirement for kitchen, sleeping quarters, etc.

I see where you're going with this, and you're fighting a losing battle that's been fought by many, many before you. Welcome to the suck. ^_^

Exactly. I HATE to admit it but you won't win this one. It's an ongoing struggle that's been fought too many times with the same fruitless results. But OSHA does have a few requirements that should be followed and are reasonable that most employers will follow through with. You have to have a bed per crew member if working anything over 16hrs, a shower, & a place to prepare food. Those are the bare minimum a company HAS to provide to it's employee's working over 16hrs consecutively. Since you're asking about this, I'm guessing you have questions regarding "Sleep Time"?

This is why you guys need a union.

Seriously, the union here stops the Ambulance Service doing silly things like "fluid deployment" aka system status management aka Jack Stout is a **** and ensures we have nice stations to watch telly in between jobs.

Brown is abhorrently aghast as the total lack of any sort of industrialised orginisation in the US EMS, no limits on driving hours or mandated breaks or anything. It's pretty bloody sad actually.

Part of the reason this is a pointless and losing battle is because of the limited regulatory mandates currently out there requiring any of these items. If you are going to pull the OSHA card, please back it with facts and post the appropriate regulations.

Ah yes Mr. Brown but most folks here think that unions are un-american...they're like sheep being led to the slaughter who are grateful for the opportunity to help the butcher make their profits. Fighting for their alleged independence while the corporations they work for take and take and take. And they all have at least one anecdotal story about a guy who knows a guy who knows another guy that didn't get fired when they should have cause the union stopped it. Cause we all know that's all labor unions do right...?

The companies who abuse the working class the most have it the best cause the folks they abuse actually aid and abet them by fighting against the idea of collective bargaining, they fight against their own best interests and call the alternative socialism.

Bloody sad indeed.

To the original poster: Contact the Los Angeles County DHS with your concerns and call CalOSHA too.

Do you have a citation for this? Code?

Thanks
