I could be wrong about this so please give feedback if so. According to the EMSA, In California, EMTs are certified by a local (county) EMS agency.

I have everything they require for applying for the certification but I'm wondering about this:

At this time, I'm looking for work in any of the following counties; San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Cruz, and Monterey. If I get certified in my home county, and then try to get a job in a neighboring county, are EMS providers known to discriminate based on the county you get certified?

Thank you for your time

California uses a State Cert, obtained at your local EMSA.

So find the closest one, get a card, then you can work anywhere in the state.

They used to use a county system, now it's a bit more similar to what they have for P's, a state wide card with some counties requiring additional training(usually obtained post-hire) to practice.

Thank-you guys,

I went down to the health center today with all the required paper work. Now my state card is coming in the mail.

Congrats, see you in the field!
