Wondered if anyone out there has been dealing with Spice?? If you dont know...I guess basically Spice is a "synthetic weed." Its not approved for human consumption, but as per the norm for our clients they dont listen to that. I generally run 12-15 calls in a shift and in the past month I'd say I see 2-3 spice pts per day. They generally have seizure type activity...(get called for seizures) then when you get there...its an all out brawl. Had a guy the other night...165lbs...fit....took 6 firemen, 3 PD officers, 2 paramedics, 5 of Haldol, 50 of benadryl...3 of Versed, and a good blast with a taser just to get him tied to the pram....he then commenced to breaking kerlix and fighting all the way to the ED... This is very common in all of the spice pts I've seen. Havent had a single one that I didn't restrain. Anyways just wondering if you have seen it or dealt with this stuff.

We see it all the time here too in Central California. It seems to be a new thing in a lot of the rural farm towns. It is widely available in many smoke shops under the guise of "incense" and is labeled "not for human consumption." It is illegal here, but the cops have their hands full trying to get rid of it as it's everywhere. It is relatively easy to ID and the packages have names like "crazy monkey" with a cartoon monkey on it and other things. I am still confused as to why it is called synthetic marijuana as the presentation of spice patients is usually nothing like the presentation of patients under the influence of marijuana. Sometimes it is hard to tell if they are on meth or spice.

We have the same presentations that you see. I personally have had a patient that 8 of versed did nothing to touch him and we fought him naked in his parents living room for 20 min before we could restrain him. Sometimes they are paranoid and run away from us when we get there. As with any of these new trendy drugs, it is all the more reason to mind scene safety. I can't emphasize enough how quickly these people go from being anxious and paranoid to violent and combative. If you see a pipe and incense packets, watch out.

Nevermind. I found my answer.
