Hey everyone!
We are planning our refresher course for January soon. We have a combination of AEMTs and EMTs. In our state, you have to put on a separate refresher for each (36 hours strictly for the As, and 24 hours strictly for the EMTs). I will be doing some discussion at our EMT refresher.
I have two specialties: EMS Safety, and Pediatrics. I will probably end up doing both. For pediatrics, I was thinking about just a refresher on peds airway management, CPR, and maybe some tips and tricks that will make BLS care of the pediatric patient a lot easier, and provide a better outcome for the patient.
For the safety portion, I have a lot to discuss. The first major thing will be lifting and moving- how can we start avoiding injuries? The second major topic will be our various PPE, and pieces of PPE that are often forgotten, and why we should use them (safety glasses, armor, seatbelts, etc.)
I think I can mostly get the main content down, but I know how BORING refresher courses can be. I don't want to be THAT GUY. For these two topics, (1) what are some fun, inspirational, teamwork-oriented hands-on activities that we can do to make the refresher a little less boring? (2) If you had to sit through these topics, what is something you would want to know or have refreshed? (3) What have your services done with these types of topics?
Our department hosts a refresher for several surrounding communities. I want to make a presentation where those communities will want to come back to our refreshers. I want our information to be intriguing and something they can take to the field. Any tips would be helpful!
