I am currently taking an EMT-B class and will be finished in 2 Months, i work full time in IT job. i was taking EMT-class for a career change to medicine. However we have some EMT basics come to our school and from what i have been reading the pay for Basics in is not great. Now having a family to support and bills to pay. i was thinking of going from Emt straight to Paramedic program. i feel once i finish this program i will be able to support a family better. please let me know what you think

THanks

The general consensus is if you want to make a career out of EMS, go to paramedic as soon as you feel comfortable.

However, wages vary depending on your location and which company you work at. Non-fire based medics in Texas can start anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000. Fire-based starts in the $40's.

EMT's generally make between $9-$13/hr.

And seeing as how I have no idea what state you're in, can't really give you an idea wage wise. Just know it probably is under your IT job.

Hi All, thanks for the advice. i guess i should let you guys know i am in massachusetts. if anyone can give me a rough idea what paramedics and Emt earn for the state of Massachusetts would be great as well. i really appreciate everyones help

I'm not sure of the salary for Mass but i know the hourly wage for basics is around 12/hr while paramedics make around 24ish/hr. Don't quote me on that but that is what I heard.

Probably depends on where you work and who you work for... Pay ranges greatly even within a single state.
