Hello all,

I signed up here a looong time ago when my dream of EMS first started. I checked all of my threads from back then and I couldn't help but to laugh. My last log-on date was August 28th 2008, the day I signed up for the Navy.

So now here I am a Corpsman working at a Naval Hospital in a Labor & Delivery Ward and I love it. Well, not necessarily the Labor & Delivery part but I have got a lot of pride wearing my Caduce.

So I have 5 years left to go and a lot ahead of me in the Navy. Most likely with a few deployments on my horizon..... but let's talk about the present.

I know many people on this site are against online classes **cough*rid*cough**, especially the EMT related variety. But here is my situation.

At Corps School we went through about 1/2-3/4 of the Brady book and had two weeks of hands on labs. But as a lot of you know, we don't get an EMT-B cert out of the school.

So being as the military sure as hell isn't flexible for me to attend a brick and mortar class my solution is to take the class online. It will be an excellent refresher for all of the stuff I did cover in Corps School and finish off the sections of the book we didn't cover. I know I will be competent enough in the skills as I like to sneak down into the ER during my shifts when my floor slows down.

So even though online classes aren't preffered, there have to be those that have a more stellar reputation than others.

Any help?

How so? I know my Paramedic class had plenty of full time military personnel. Maybe you should check with your department head/Chief and see what your options are? What's your rank? If you are HN/HA/HR, you may be SOL until you make 3rd. Considering you have 5 years to go, and most programs are 2 yrs max, you have plenty of time to figure things out. Good luck to you, and maybe give going 8404 a thought, as sending you to medic school would definitely be justifiable to the bean counters and desk jockeys.

people who take education seriously can learn in an online setting. I took my emt-b online and i'll put my basic skills up against anyone else's.

My program was held on a military campus on an army post. Does the Navy have college campuses on the base? If so, I'd check and see if any of them offer a program. Ours was held at night, 1800-2200 specifically for the betterment of military schedules.

I was an an infantry guy with no military medical training and I took my NREMT-B at Ft. Carson Colorado back in 2002. If your a corpman I believe you can challenge the NREMT-B? check it out

I should add I did take an EMT-B course at a local community college CONUS
