Anyone has some recent experience re: EMT-B education in the SF Bay Area and care to share their experience?
Since I had several hick-ups registering for the EMT program at Chabot College in Hayward I looked up alternatives and found Merritt College (part of Peralta community college district).
So now I am signed up for the class at both schools starting in August.
What's your experience going to either one of them? I am planning on attending the first class meeting at each school and decide on which to drop before the deadline.
Though I heard about some "issues" at Merritt in the past, the person in question no longer is in charge for a few years now.
Known differences:
Chabot college, Main instructor John McInnis, is a literally all day class with lunch break from 8.30 a.m. to 6.45 p.m.
vs.
Merritt College, Main Instructor Desmond Simmons, 9 a.m. to 4.20 p.m.
Chabot College has one extra class, a one Saturday about triage.
Chabot also mentions that there is a ride-along as well as ER practical experience scheduled within the semester.
Both are not listed on any info with Merritt.
The only "option" I consider is that Chabot is a 30+ min. commute on freeway during rush hour and also more miles from where I live vs. 15 minutes of city streets to get to Merritt campus.
I know that any EMT class is a prep class for the state/local exams and do not certify you at all other then that you have fulfilled 120 hrs of training.
What are your thoughts?
