I got an email reminder today that my EMT-B certifcation will expire in March of 2013 (so I still have a couple months left) and that I should recertify.
It also states that
" *To be eligible for recertification you must be actively working within an emergency medical service, or patient health care facility using your appropriate EMS skills. If you wish to request Inactive Status and this is your first recertification, you must provide documentation that you have worked in a patient care setting for at least six (6) months. "

I never worked as an EMT-B, I'm working as an RN in a OMSurgery office right now. I don't want to lose my EMT status though, so I was wondering if anyone know how to proceed. I'm in San Diego, CA right now, but might move next year due to my husband being in the military.
Thanks in advance for for any advise!

In San Diego, you need 24 CE units and be signed off on a skill sheet.

This only validates you for San Diego. For NREMT which you should do, you have other hoops to jump. Check with the National registry.

I gotta ask, if your an RN, why care about EMTB at 1/4 the pay?

Thanks for the response and the link! I'll definitely will check this out and also contact the National Registry.

I don't really plan on working as an EMT, but it helped me to find a job as an RN! (the more certs the better ;-) ). I just don't want to lose a certification I have.

Well, I bet you'd be able to use your RN job as healthcare contact for NREMT. Just call and ask them. You will have to submit skills and CEs to them. Exactly what, I don't know, but it should all be on your paperwork.

Look up Morongo Basin Ambulance: http://www.mbambulance.org/

Ask to speak with Veronica, She can help you out with getting skills and CEs squared away. They also have a Reserve program that may be able to be used to get you onto paper for NREMT.

MBA is good people and Veronica is the best.

Thank you! Yes, MBA is great, I used to live in 29 Palms when I did my EMT class and did my clinicals with MBA! And I'll definitely will contact the Registry.

Ah! Your location shows as 29 palms still. That's why I tossed it out there. It sure is a small world.

The gambler addict in me lit up like a slot machine when you said Morongo. :)
