I just got my nremt certs back in march. I still have not been able to find a job, but I will be starting the EMT-I program this month. I have a great possibility of getting hired on my East Texas Medical Center EMS in December, but due to my age they cannot hire me until then.

My question is.... I am so worried about the recertification. What happens if I am not with an EMS organization by the time my cert is up. If I take the intermedicate test does all of my process start all over again, or will my expiration date still be the same?

Also does a vollie fire department count as being with an EMS organization to the national registry.

Also, can the CE for the NREMT be done online, or does it have to be completed in a classroom.... I online, where are some places that I can take some classes?

Yes, doesn't matter, and yes!!!!!!

Yes you will get a new expiration date when you complete your EMT-I.

When you recert with NR (if you even decide to!) just indicate an affiliation, doesn't matter where.

Yes you can take your CE online through programs such as EMcert or C.E. Solutions. Their programs allow you all needed hours to recert your state cert. Remember, NR is your option to maintain, you do not have to recert with them to maintain your Texas certification. However, you cannot recert NR and then let your Texas requirements lapse, you must maintain the higher state standards.

Also keep in mind that your EMT-I class iteself can be used as CE hours........

But you can double-count hours for the NR and the Texas cert, right?

Yes, you can use the CE hours for both concurrently...........

What are the advantages/disadvantages of renewing your National Registry. I will actually renew it if I decide to take my intermediate test, since the test is from NR. Does CE get expensive? Are there some cheaper ways out?

My last CE through EMcert was $100 for unlimited CE hours, yours should be a little less. I had my NREMT-P from '97 until 2000. I let it lapse because I had no need for it, the only reason I got it initially was because my college utilized it as our certifying exam. Now that Texas uses NREMT statewide, I'd hold on to it, you will need it down the line as most flight services are now requiring it for new hires.

I plan on keeping it... I just have to get on top of my CEs and I have to get affiliated...
