Ok, so I have not taken the national exam, just the Illinois state exam. I passed that and am a state certified EMT-B. Was I supposed to get a patch or something, or do I get that once I get a job? Thanks in advance.

PA sends you two patches when you get certified. mine came in like 2 weeks. dont know how IL works tho.

some states do that, some dont.

in ma, you dont get a patch from the state but you can buy them at just about every uniform supply store.

also, just about every company here issues you your uniforms and you'll get patches on the shirts when you pick them up.

Thanks guys.

I'd feel bad if I showed up for a job and didn't have one when I was supposed to.

I'd be like "I have my EMT student patch and a license."

well during your interview or at the latest suring orientation, the issue of uniforms will come up. if it hasnt come up by the end of orientation, bring it up.

while i have never worked for one, i have heard of companies that dont supply unis. either way, they usuallu have them at the supplier.

You have to wear the NREMT or state patches on your uniforms? Ew. Are you sure you haven't misunderstood. Wearing any patches received anywhere other than the hiring service is looked down (and mocked horribly) around here.

At the vollie squad, we wear cert patches on one shoulder and the squad patch on the other. Same at the part-time job.

The full-time job wears the same squad patch on both shoulders.

theres no law requiring that we wear a state patch up here, but just about everybody does. its usually company/department patch on one side and state emt on the other. some companies have their own emt patches made up.

i worked for one company that issued polo shirts with the co name embroidered on the chest and no patches.

some companies are really strict up here. some couldnt care less.

i knew one guy who had done quite a bit of moving around and carried current tickets for like 4 or 5 different states. just to screw with people, he had a different state patch on each shirt. it was funny. for a while we had a pool going on which he'd wear to work that day. it was entertaining for about a week.

Ok, I admit, that's kinda neat.
