Hello hello,

I am an EMT at the moment and taking my first nursing classes for an A.S.N(associates in nursing), is there anything I can review/learn before hand to make it an easier class, I will be working full time while taking nursing classes. My first "semester" is A&P II, and Pharmacology. I've already started review for A&P is there any fundamental things of pharmacology i can review?

Thanks in advance :D

Get your A&P book and start reading.
Get your pharm book and start reading.
Or just enjoy your free time while you have it

Any parts that are strongly considered the "fundamentals" of pharmacology?
I wish i can just enjoy my free time, but i have not had the best track record with school lol

I would say the basics of how they work. Learning the part of drugs you regurgitate in class (drug, dose, indication, contraindication) is easy once you actually start handling them. It helps to understand the how of why they work. I am having to take my own advice, but understanding what a drug does, how it does it, and what that means in the big picture helps me and is just good practice in general. My stupid moment with this way back was being asked why I didnt want to give a beta blocker to someone that used cocaine. Felt awful silly after that one, but it made the above a bit more obvious to me.

Taking A&P will help you understand that as it goes hand in hand.

Use resources besides your textbook. YouTube has been great for this stuff, especially Khan Academy for A&P. Visuals helped too, I used some stuff from sketchy medic. Podcasts from various docs are awesome once you get further along. An A&P coloring book for when you are sitting around. Create a folder or just pin any helpful **** on your wall. When I was in medic school (and in a different dorm room) I had about a 4x4 (yes, feet) section of wall covered in everything from the electrolyte flow in the cardiac cycle, EtCO2 wave forms, to commonly prescribed meds hanging over my bed and I saw the stuff constantly. A little passive learning. Anki was also a really good study app, but this is really only helpful if you have a droid phone.

Chemistry, biology, and A&P. There is no easy way to separate the fundamentals of other subjects from what we know as pharmacology.

You gotta be familiar with cell membranes and how things get through them. Many physiology/pharmacology books will try to get you up to speed on what you need to know in their beginning chapters. Get the textbook for your upcoming course and ask questions when you hit any roadblock.

I preach the spaced repetition gospel everywhere I go. Learn your way around Anki now, and you'll be able to hit the ground running with it when school starts.

Your going to be MATH intensive when it comes to drug calculations. If your not up on your algebra- it should be extra fun!
