This is a link to a news story in Austin, TX where a 1 year old child was left in the bath tub and drowned. I know the mother of the child, she is a member of my girlfriends extended family.

Since resuscitation was unsuccessful I am guessing she left the child for at least 5-10 minutes. Just can't understand how someone can do that. I am glad I have not ran one of these calls yet.

CNS injury remains the major determinant of subsequent survival and long-term morbidity in cases of drowning. Two minutes after immersion, a child will lose consciousness. Irreversible brain damage usually occurs after 4-6 minutes. Most children who survive are discovered within 2 minutes of submersion. Most children who die are found after 10 minutes.
