Hinds CC in Jackson, MS offers an LPN to ADN transition, and they open it to respiratory therapists and paramedics. Its a one calendar year course. I have the prereqs, minus like 2-3 classes I will be taking online this summer anyways, to qualify for entering nursing. I am one short from my AAS. Has anyone done this? I know of one medic who I have talked to who did it, and she did hers in Pensacola, FL. Stated she felt the instructors tried to weed out the medics first. Seems like an interesting option.

I have a medic acquaintance who just did something similar, was a medic for a few years and worked on a rig PRN while going through a kind of bridge to RN. He described the early "how to be a nurse" period not so much as trying to weed out the medics as trying to get them out of the emergent mind-set because nursing is a totally different kind of work and scope.

In the end he went straight from school to an ICU/CCU floor.
