NYS DOH criminal records check...

NOTE: I have no criminal law convictions.

The NYS DOH denies an EMT-b certificate for anyone with a felony or certain misdemeanors. However, they never took my prints and they only ID-ed me, through the school, from a NYS Driver's License.

Years ago I got a NYC Process servers license and a NYC TLC License, both of which required finger prints.

Does any state require prints?

I am just curious how they do the check without the prints. My awareness of the process is, for LEO applications at least, they print you, and check the prints against various databases of prints against FBI and NYS DOCJ records. Any other conviction check you need to do by the courts, by state, how do they know someone does not have convictions in a different state ?

I had to get fingerprinted for tx, Colorado ran an FBI fingerprint check, and in NM to do anything higher than basic you had to get fingerprinted before you could start clinical rotations.

Anyone know how the NYS DOH checks people's records?

In theory someone could have a fake NYS DMV ID card (it has happened), get a position in a vollie or private, I assume municipals do fingerprints?

I believe that they do it checking your info (SS#, DOB) against the info on file. In PA when I got by background check done I wasn't printed and I wasn't printed for the background check for EMT class (event though i feel it was on the honor system)

In CA we have "Live Scan". This process is required for a State/County certification as well as for our DMV certification. It runs a background check and fingerprint set through state (DOJ) and federal (FBI) records. The federal part is new for EMS - it was only state until recently.
