I just took the NREMT and had a question I have no idea on, so if anyone can help out, that would be great!

I read and learned everywhere that to measure an OPA, you measure from the corner of the mouth to the earlobe (some texts said corner-jaw angle). This, however, was not an option on the NREMT exam. The two answers that made any sense were: 1) measure from the front teeth to the angle of the jaw OR 2) measure from the chin to the earlobe.

Since both these measurements would result in an oversized OPA, I didn't know how to answer. Anyone know??

Center of mouth to angle of jaw, or edge of mouth to earlobe.

Are you sure neither were answers?

The two ways I was taught to measure was corner of mouth to earlobe and/or center of mouth to angle of jaw (which would be teeth I suppose)

Picture how the OPA is positioned and what anatomical structures it references. That is more practical for a real situation than memorizing something and it can also help you on an exam.

Thanks

Thanks for the help. It was mostly the wording that got me befuddled, if the answer had simply said "center of the mouth" instead of "front teeth" it would have been clearer. But then again, it seems the exam isn't exactly meant for ease of use!
