So, with about a month left until graduation from class, I'm feeling pretty excited about getting into the whole EMS field. My ride alongs have been awesome, though there weren't nearly enough of them, and the knack I have with the didactic material, I'm not too worried about my finals or the NREMT. So what's the problem you ask? While hanging around with some of the guys after class tonight, they start spouting all of this stuff about where they're going to work and what not, private service this, and county such-in-such that, and you can't get hired full time right away you'll have to go pnc (or some other similar acronym.) So they look at me and ask what my plans are, and my response equates to "I'm gonna work on the ambalanze." I came to realize that I know next to nothing about how the process works to actually get on with a service, let alone trying to work for my home county. I knew that it was probably a little more complex than just showing up at a field station with a copy of my license and having them put me on a truck, but other than that, I really don't know what I should be doing. Do I need to be pounding the pavement now, looking for prospects? Is there some special process that needs to be started to be able to work somewhere? I don't want to be the newb that shows up somewhere and have someone ask me why I didn't do this, that, or the other like everyone else in class did to get a job. Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming your location in your profile is correct, here is the service in your county.

You will need your NREMT, State license, and CPR card most likely. Different services have different requirements.

You apply for jobs like any other job. Submit an application, hopefully get an interview, then hopefully get a job. Only difference is you may have to take a skills verification test.
