Welcome to EMTLIFE Cam!
I started EMT class when I was 23. School went smooth and well for me only because i made it to be. EMT school will comes down on you and you only. You need to work for that grade, to pass the class, to know whats needed to be covered. You are responsible for studying and reading for yourself. The class is just there as guidance. Don't be shy or worried if you ask stupid questions. We're all here to learn and if there's something you don't know just ask.

Good Luck!!

It's an adventure, that's for sure, and chances are a good portion of your class won't pass / get certified.

is there alot of hands on training in the basic course?...im starting in two days!!!

All depends on your school.

Mine did lectures on Tuesday and skills on Thursday, then required minimum of 80 hours clinicals.

How are you starting if your only 16?, everywhere I have heard of you have to be 18 at least by the time the program ends since many places wont hire till your 18, some not even till your 21.

I know Connecticut and I think Maryland, New Jersey, and Rhode Island let you get it at 16. And so what if they won't hire you? Not everyone is in it to get paid ;)

They may require you to ride with someone of age though.

Well yeah more power to you if they let you, I just say the not getting hired thing cause that's the fun part, going out and getting some experience, pay is just a nice bonus

At some places being an EMT at 16 can count towards the prerequisite two year EMS experience for getting hired.

Welcome and good luck with EMT school.

What the hell? That's dumb. "Hey, you're 22 and just got your EMT-B, so I can't hire you... but that kid who's 16 and just got his a week after his drivers license, he's hired!"

I mean that once they turn 18 and a few months, they can get hired.

I know here in VA you gotta be 16 to take the class and 16 to ride in any county vehicle. But where I'm at you gotta be voted in for a 6 months probationary period then once that's up you got 6 months to enroll in a Emt class. Yada yada yada you all know the drill.

But check out this website below, its like a blog we set up andshows our calls and life there and stuff!
