New York EMT killed in ambulance MVC

A New York EMT was killed when the ambulance he was riding in ran off the road into a tree. The victim was in the back of the unit on the return leg of an early morning transport call when the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel. There was no patient in the unit at the time of the incident, and the driver was treated and released with minor injuries. The full story can be seen here. It was Empire State Ambulance about an hour North of my location. This was a transport ambulance in a suburban/rural area. The driver fell asleep at the wheel while the paramedic was sleeping in the back. They were on the way back from a transport so no patient was aboard.
