I just signed up here and thought I should introduce myself.

I currently work full time as a police officer and am a member of our SWAT team. I just started my EMT course last week and decided to put myself through it so I could do more while on calls and also because our SWAT team does not have a medic on it. My plan is to take it to paramedic level and then I'll be able to do everything on SWAT call-outs as our local paramedics except I'll be right on site so assistance can be rendered immediately so a downed officer won't have to wait until the scene has been secured.

I joined here to learn more about the profession, get some study tips, and do what I can to make myself better for those I hope to help someday.

Welcome.

Just out of curiosity, have you spoken with your local EMS agency's medical director. 1) Paramedic is all well and good, but you can't legally do anything past basic first aid without having a medical director affiliated with you. 2) For your purposes, AEMT (formerly EMT-Intermediate) is more than sufficient for what you may need to do.

Yes I have talked to them and we're all good.

Plus if someone's hurt and dying I really don't care about the legalities.
Human life ALWAYS comes first!!!!

I hear where you're coming from, but if you can eliminate potential legal action then why not do so. It sounds as if you already have, though.

I help train our PD's tactical medics, which is a very successful program here. So if you have any questions, I'd be happy to offer any insight or put you in contact with some great resources. How large is your department if you don't mind my asking?
