Just got my first job as a EMT-B and start monday. Anyone have suggestions or tips for me? What should i expect the first day?

Show up a few minutes early, 10-15 is plenty.

Clean uniform, shined boots, small spiral pocket notepad and two pens.

Showered, groomed, teeth brushed.

Money for lunch/brown bag.

Keep your eyes and ears open, and your mouth shut.

Good luck!

I dont totally agree with keeping your mouth shut. Ask intelligent questions, at the proper time. In the middle of the run, not so much.

Point taken; I was leaning more towards not trying to impress your new coworkers with how much you know about their jobs.

Good luck! Yes, do ask questions. I just started my first EMT-B job at a hospital-based service and they got concerned when I stopped asking questions. LOL Learn as much as you can but do ask questions. Also, learn the truck completely, inside and out Check off a truck as much as you can, multiple trucks if they'll let you. I averaged checking two trucks per day (they run three) when I first started. It did me a lot of good.

If it's hospital-based, don't be afraid to get involved in the ER. We help out all the time and I love it. I've already learned a lot from helping out.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Its a volunteer job through a city. The city has mostly volunteers except a few medics and the adminstration. I just got the job to get the experience and to get medic school paid for. I'll let you know how the first day goes.
