Good afternoon all:

Brand new to the forum today. Wanted to introduce myself.

I am starting a EMT-B class on Monday and I wanted to know if any of you know about the job market in Las Vegas NV. I have been told by my aunt (Who is an RN at a local trauma center) that I won't have any problems finding a job here. (Lotsa seniors and Baby boomers :) I am in the process of changing careers (34 Years old). EMT-B is part of my progression to RN. I want to get a jump start in the medical field. Since I am mainly interested in trauma and emergency medicine I feel like EMT will give me the ability to work and go to school and then later go into an Paramedic to RN bridge program. Any thoughts?

I love the forum BTW it's already given me a lot of information and solidified my desire to become a great medic.

Thanks a bunch

Welcome!

Welcome to the tribe!! :)^_^:)

No, I don't really know how things are specifically in NV, though I heard demand is high in the area.

What I can tell you however, is the general rule about finding a job in EMS:

Firefighter is hardest, as turnover is very low and spots, when they open up, are extremely competitive,

EMT-B is horribly competitive, and supply is much larger than demand,

Paramedics are in high demand throughout the country,

and an RN can find a job with eyes closed.

You have the same plans that I do. I will be 34 on the 4th of July. The place I worked shut down, so I too am changing careers! The Gov't is footing the bill for 2 years of education..... so I am making the most of it. I am a year into it, so I will be a paramedic at the end of next summer! Then I plan to work at a local hospital in the ER. The hospital has a program that pays for furthering your education if you work there, so all of my schooling will have been payed for. So maybe I will be a RN in the next couple of years. Sounds like a good plan huh? :) I just wish I would have had a clue about life 15 years ago, and was atually able to think stuff like this through.

Good luck and welcome to the forum

i don't know about the job market in NV but most of the time it helps in trying to get a job as an EMT not to tell them that you plan on doing anything that would involve you leaving the agency in the next 5 years.
