Hi every one!

Just thought I'd start off by introducing myself here and saying hi. I just acquired a job, finished the first week and now I'll be precepting this Monday. I've always been an anon browser of the forums thanks to Google, and thought maybe it was time to make it official and finally join. So, hello!

Also just realized literally above me is the actual introduction thread...Welp, time to sign off the internet for the rest of my life.

Welcome: good luck on your pre-cepting shifts.

When you get there (and get there early) go through the ambulance on your own before the crew gets there, then go through it again with the crew.
Ask questions about equipment that you are not sure about.
Sit in the back of the truck and look at the layout and find out where things are: also look to see where everything is for an IV (for example) or to intubate someone, or OB delivery, etc. Saves time during transport if your crew needs something and you don't need to go through 12 compartments and 3 bags looking for it.
Find out what they take with them to the patient on runs: some crews it varies from what dispatch says, some take the bare minimum of equipment some take a lot.
Find out what shift duties are and jump in and do them. Your assigned duties and more. Help the other people on shift with theirs.
Find out who is cooking and help them with whatever they need. After you eat, start cleaning up and doing dishes, even if it isn't your shift duty assignment.

For future shifts, volunteer to cook. Find something you are good at, and bring everything in to make it (double what you think you will need) and do it.

Stay busy, don't sleep all day, don't sit while others are working, take text book with you to study during down times
